When Jack said, “We miss you” to Kurt Cobain, I wasn’t sure who this “we” was. But then i realized it’s the same “we” who said, “We are celebrating the One Year Anniversary of Vehicle Flips’ “The Clean Slate” youtube being published.”
(sorry for no hyperlink on VF and their song, i find hyperlinks annoying, a serious crutch, in a written piece. I mean, who are “we”? Watered down convenient internet versions of David Foster Wallace?)
On Yo La Tengo’s site, they have traditionally been very clever with hyperlinks — unexpected funny images and such. In many pieces, they exist only to increase “Search Engine Optimization,” a phrase I despise.
As for the royal “we,” generally i use it as a goof (pretending Salt in Wound is a large organization). With Cobain, i was guessing that more than one person missed him. “Here we are now, entertain us….”
Cool, yeah, doubled with “missing” someone, it was a bit much for me. I’ve stated before that I’m fucked up, a deranged mind. I’ve actually tried to comprehend that phrase “I miss you” more than reasonably healthy. Just something I don’t ‘get.’
Hard to believe what you read on the internet, but I just saw that it was the Mets’ Richie Ashburn who made the Spanish translation for “I’ve got it” to help out a Venezuelan teammate vis a vis help out the Yo la Tengo band. Though I’m a Pirates fan, we mainly got Phillies games on the tube growing up vis a vis Ashburn announcing.
