Earlier this evening, a baseball source revealed that free-agent outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury had reached an agreement with the New York Yankees on a seven-year deal reportedly worth $153 million. Ellsbury immediately tweeted:
Jacoby Ellsbury @JacobyEllsbury
Wicked happy 2 shave this *&^#ing beard #bostonstrong
Meanwhile, the move raised intriguing new questions for baseball fans. Have the Yankees given up on re-signing Robinson Cano? Will Ellsbury’s sizable contract affect New York’s ability to fill the remaining holes in their roster? And most importantly: What will John Sterling’s home-run call be for Jacoby Ellsbury?
As always, Salt in Wound has a few suggestions for the Yankees’ beleaguered radio play-by-play announcer.
— “Jacoby jacks one!”
— “Jacoby Ells-buries it in the right-field seats!”
— “Jacoby ad-Meyers that shot!”
— “¡Ell jonrón!”
— “Baseball’s been bury, bury good to Jacoby!”
— “Ells bells, it’s gone!”
— “That ball is climbing up on Ellsbury Hill!”
— “Mmm-mmm, grade-A Ja-kobe beef!”
— “Ells-ementary, my dear swat-one!”
— “Mark Jacoby down for a homer—and he ain’t show-boatin’!”
— “It’s an Ell train to Mor-gone Avenue!”
— “Greetings from Ellsbury Park!”
— “He put some Ellsbow grease into that one!”
— “He just hit it, and this is crazy… but here’s the wall—Jacoby maybe!”
— “Jacoby laces a ‘sbury Top-Sider!”
— “Sweet Caro-line drive to the short porch in right! Good times never felt so GONE!”
