Album Review: ‘World’s Strongest Dog’ by Long Neck
Long Neck isn’t just one of the most exciting young bands in the area — they’re one of the top young bands anywhere. The second full-band full-length from Lily Mastrodimos and company is quite an achievement and I was delighted to review World’s Strongest Dog for hMAG.
Faces: Holly Metz
Hoboken’s historian in residence, Holly Metz, has written a fascinating new book, The Untold Life of Peter Lee, about a man born into slavery for the prominent Stevens family. I had the honor of interviewing Ms. Metz for hMAG.
Kids and Dogs Look at Me Funny
This Saturday, October 5, I’ll be holding my second-annual “Don’t Diss Disabilities” discussion at the Hoboken Public Library. I wrote a preview for hMAG.
Faces: Tammy Faye Starlite
Tammy Faye Starlite is a singer, an actress, a neighbor, and an absolute delight. Her New York Times-feted salute to Marianne Faithfull returns this month, and I had the pleasure of interviewing Tammy for hMAG.
No Feet? No Parking
Remarkably, it took me a full year to get a reserved disabled parking space in Hoboken. Have I mentioned that I don’t have feet? I wrote the whole ugly story for hMAG.
Album Review: ‘Omnidirectional’ by the Schramms
I’ve been a fan of the Schramms since moving to Hoboken back in 1994. I’m thrilled that they’ve released their first studio album in nearly 20 years, and was quite honored to write a review for hMAG.
Review: ‘Hey Kid’ by the Karyn Kuhl Band
The new EP by Hoboken’s own Karyn Kuhl Band, Hey Kid, will be released on June 21, but is available for pre-order now. I wrote a review for hMAG.
Rest Ashore at the Hoboken Arts & Music Festival
I wrote this preview article for hMAG of the exciting young Hoboken-based band Rest Ashore’s appearance at the Spring Arts & Music Festival. The piece also serves as a review of their recent EP Annihilation.
Right in Tune, Right in Town: Tunes in Hoboken
I’ve been a regular customer at the Tunes record store in Hoboken since they opened back in 1995, and have made so many friends there over the years. (Also been to a ton of gigs featuring at least one staff member.) So it was a real pleasure to write this feature article about Tunes for […]
